The Second Opinion

Already found an ad? Send the link. Nancy checks the price against comparable listings and looks for scam signs and stale-ad warnings.

The Landed Cost

For anything shipped, especially from the US: shipping, duties and brokerage where they apply, and HST, so you compare true totals in CAD.

How to ask her

Write it like a "Wanted" ad. The more of these you include, the better the short list:

What: the item and the specs that matter (e.g. "2U server, at least 128 GB RAM").
Budget: your ceiling, in CAD, and whether that includes tax and shipping.
Where: the city or postal region it ships to, or whether you can pick up.
Condition: new-open-box, refurbished with warranty, or used as-is is fine.
Deadline: when you need it in hand.

WANTED: Refurb rack server, 128 GB+, under C$1,500 delivered to London, Ont. Warranty preferred. Needed within three weeks.

What you get back

A short report: the best few listings with working links, price, seller and condition; the landed cost of each; anything flagged and why; and the listings she dropped. Final call and payment stay with you.
